Added on 11 October 2015

Inverness - 5th November

Crofting Connections day working with Primary 6 pupils from Inverness Primary Schools "Weaving Wool, Weaving Words".

Pupils will be working with wool, following the processes involved in taking it from the raw fleece to fabric and using that as inspiration to craft their own responses in words.

Expert crafts people will direct the pupiuls in spinning, dying and weaving and Christina will teach the process of waulking, together with an introduction to traditional Gaelic waulking song, with Bob Pegg leading the words element of the day.

Crofting Connections is a programme of activities and events that will inspire over 1,000 young people aged 5-16 living in remote rural communities throughout the Highlands & Islands about crofting past, present and future. They will learn traditional skills from crofters, create their own climate-friendly food-growing projects, and help safeguard the history, culture and heritage associated with their crofting communities.
