Song and Muisc with Syrian families
Added on 22 May 2017
As part of a move to help Syrian families who have resettled in Alness integrate into the community, I am working with Alpha Munro and Lizzie MacDougall, providing workshops of song, music and story.
The workshops take place after school on a Friday in The Place, a converted church in the town.
Whole families take part, with children from toddlers to college age and their parents.
We have intorduced traditional Scottish tales, songs and music and provided the chance for participants to explore the range of instruments available, with dads especially involved in drumming.
I have been sharing songs of Scotland with the participants and they have been sharing songs from their homelands.
The workshops are being curated by Feis Rois.
