Common Ground on the Hill & Swannanoa Gathering

Added on 18 June 2012

This July I'm off to teach at a couple of festivals in the USA.  Both these events are new for me - I've never been to them before, but they do look like great weeks and have impressive reputations!

The dates do mean that I won't be able to teach at the Fort Augustus feis this year, though.

Common Ground on the Hill - Traditions Week II

Traditions Weeks I & II are two separate weeks of classes, concerts, dances and other activities in the traditional roots-based arts, held on the campus of McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland.

I'm teaching 'Singing Traditional Songs' in the mornings and 'Gaelic, Irish and Scottish Song' with Tom Smith and Nuala Kennedy in the afternoons.

Keep in mind that the Common Ground on the Hilll Festival takes place on the weekend between Traditions Weeks I & II, and is held at the nearby Carroll County Farm Museum.

Swannanoa Gathering Celtic Week

Founded in 1991 by Warren Wilson College President Emeritus Douglas M. Orr, Jr., The Swannanoa Gathering is the college's continuing eduction program, consisting of a series of week-long workshops in various folk arts held in July and August on the campus of Warren Wilson College just east of Asheville in the heart of North Carolina's beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. With a limited enrollment and an 'open' format which allows each student to select their own curriculum from a variety of courses, Swannanoa Gathering offers an intimate, supportive community experience for students of all abilities, featuring a staff of some of the finest performers and teachers in the world.

I'm leading classes in 'Song in Scottish Oral Tradition' in the mornings and 'Scottish Gaelic Song Tradition' in the afternoons.
